Hey Everyone!
You should have arrived here from Alison's blog. If not, please start at the beginning at the Bombshell Stamps Blog so you don't miss any cool projects!
Alison, our blog hop Captain, has picked this wintery cool theme -- "Baby, It's Cold Outside." for this month's Bombshell Stamps Hump Day Hop. Some of her suggestions were "Make a winter themed project, use the title of the hop as a sentiment, dress your Bombshell up in warm clothes (or not!), etc." The first thing that popped up into my head was the song of course (which gets stuck in my head everytime). But, I'm not quite sure what crazy trail of thoughts I had that led me to this idea, but I thought, hmm... I'd like to make a wintery pair of Bombshell earrings (using skulls of course!). So, that is what I did.
When I tried out Stempelientje's Create Your Own
Background Tutorial for Wonderful Wednesday this month, I had created 2 backgrounds - one in purple and one in blue. I used the purple background for my card so I had this wonderful blue background left which I decided to use for these earrings. And off of the top of my head I can't remember the name of it, but it is a Tim Holtz Distress Ink. I stamped the small sugar skull from "Sugar Skulls" Stamp Set (another of my favorite Bombshell Stamps sets!) onto the blue background in Staz-On Ink and then die cut the circle using a Sizzix circle die. I also cut a few circles of the same size in black cardstock and mod podged all the layers together to create a thick Bombshell Skull charm. (Note: These earrings shouldn't be worn while playing in the snow, swimming, bathing... you get the idea.)
To create the snowflake circle charms and the small charms, I did a little but of an experimentation with blank charms (by Vintaj), a regular embossing folder and my eBosser. If you are wondering what an eBosser is, it's an embossing / die cutting machine that is electronic with no hand crank and the cutting platform is 8.5 inches wide by 12 inches length. I have successfully used the Sizzix Vintaj dies/folders in it (as you can see in an old blog post here), but I was curious to see if I could emboss the metal charm blanks with a regular embossing folder.
So, I tried it. And it did work! Although, my embossing folder is slightly marked up now and the embossed image is not as clear as the Vintaj dies are. But, alas, regular embossing folders aren't really meant for embossing metal charms. I also attached some bling to the earrings, which is by Darice.
Thanks for hopping by! Your next stop is to Jodi's blog to see her cool project! And if you are looking for the Sugar Skulls Stamp Set, click here and you can purchase them at the Bombshell Stamps site!
Thanks again! Enjoy the hop!
