Bombshell Chalkboard Menu

Happy Friday Bombshells!

Is anyone else ready for summer? It's Kim here with a Fabulous Friday Tutorial that is sure going to make you want to grab an icy drink! (with or without alcohol- take your pick!). It's a chalkboard menu created with the Tiki Party, Hawaiian Girl, Hula Girl, and Tattoo Font sets.
Supplies Needed:
-Bombshell Stamp Sets - Tiki Party, Hawaiian Girl, Hula Girl, and Tattoo Font
-A rectangular wood board - 10 inches high x 8 1/2 inches wide, about 1/8 of an inch thick (I purchased mine at AC Moore)
-Folk Art Chalkboard Paint in Black by Plaid
-1 inch foam brush
-Tsukineko Brilliance Archival Pigment Ink Pad in Moonlight White
-Tsukineko Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black
-White Cardstock Paper
-Scissors
-Small Thin Paint Brush and a regular size paint brush
-Heat Gun Tool
-Acrylic Stamp Block and Stamp Cleaner
-Mod Podge in Matte
- Martha Stewart Craft Paints in Satin (Pink Dahlia, Blue Calico, Scottish Highlands, Habanero, Chestnut Brown, Marmalade, Surf, Chamomile, Spring Pasture are the ones I used)
-Disposable Gloves, good ventilation, water, paper towels, and chalk!
Using the foam brush, apply the black chalkboard paint onto one side of the wood board. Once that dries, apply another coat of chalkboard paint. Then do the same for the back, making sure each coat is dry before applying another layer. I used 2 coats of paint on each side, but depending on the wood and chalkboard paint you use you may need to use additional coats. Apparently, drying time will vary from 1 - 24 hours depending on weather, so make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for the chalkboard paint you're using. Plaid has instructions and tips on their website for their brand of chalkboard paint. Also, if your wood is really rough, you may need to sand it down first before applying paint. The board I used was smooth so I didn't need to.

While waiting for coats to dry, I started planning out the placement of my stamps on paper. You will need to stamp your stamps in black ink onto white cardstock and fussy cut them out for later. Once the board is dry, ink up the stamps with a light coat of Tsukineko Brilliance Archival Pigment Ink Pad in Moonlight White and start stamping them onto the board. I used a lighter coat of ink so it would look more like the stamped image was drawn in chalk.
For the areas where the stamps overlap, first stamp the first image onto the board, example -  the Hawaiian Girl, let it dry, and then place the cut out image on top of it. Next ink the second image that will be behind the first one, example - the palm tree, and stamp it on top of the paper cut out image.
After all of the images are stamped onto the chalkboard, use a heat gun for a few seconds to dry the images a little bit and then let the chalkboard sit for 24 hours before painting. (The chalkboard paint itself needs to sit for 24 hours before it's conditioned according to manufacturer's paint instructions.)
Once that loooooong 24 hours is up, paint in parts of the stamped images using Martha Stewart Craft Paints in Satin and a small tiny paint brush. I used a very thin coat of paint and let some of the black chalkboard show through so the coloring would look more like it was colored in with colored chalk. I had to restrain myself and not color in the Tiki guys, banner, and Hawaiian Girl because even a light coat of paint washed out the small features.

After the paint is dry, apply a thin coat of matte Mod Podge only onto the stamped image areas and let it dry.
In the circled area on the left the Mod Podge clumped up a little, so I smoothed it out while it was still wet. On the right is the tiki guys after the Mod Podge has dried.

So after all that waiting for paint and glue to dry, it's finally time to condition the chalkboard area where there are no stamped images. I conditioned it with a yellow piece of chalk, but I think it would have been better to use white.
Clean the chalk off with a damp paper towel and your Bombshell Menu is all ready to use!
There are so many different kinds of chalkboard paint out there, so choose the one that suits you best and follow the manufacturer's instructions for it. I recommend wearing gloves while using the chalkboard paint and be careful when applying it because it's permanent when dry. Also use it in a room that has good ventilation (I find it to be a little smelly and I am safety conscious, as you can tell!).

And last but not least, this project is great for any Bombshell Stamp Set. Whether it be this Tiki Bar Menu, a Girl's Ruin Night Menu, a Halloween Skeleton Menu... And chalkboard paint comes in a ton of different colors. The possibilities are endless!

Happy Stampin!

Bombshell Stamps April Hump Day Hop

Happy Wednesday and welcome to the Bombshell Stamps Hump Day Hop!

You should have arrived here from Alison's awesome blog. If not, please start at the beginning at the Bombshell Stamps Blog so you don't miss any great projects!  Alison, our challenge captain,  chose a color challenge this month as the theme.  It's called Cherry Palette by Design Seeds.

I really like the color palette but I had a hard time matching the colors with the papers I have.  I tried my best to match them as closely as possible. I also tried to photograph the colors as best as I could, but unfortunately this green is what I ended up with.  In real life, this green is not really bright at all.  It's more of a light spring green.  Anyway, I used the Retro Devil and Sinner text stamp from the Cherry Bomb Stamp Set.  I stamped both on white cardstock in Chianti colorbox mini ink.  The green strips were embossed with a Cuttlebug Dominoes embossing folder in my Cuttlebug.  The sinner text box, the retro devil, and the blue/red rectangle are all adhered onto the card with pop dots.

I used the Bombshell Stamps December 2009 Sketch as inspiration for this card.  All of the Bombshell Stamps past sketches are right on the Bombshell Blog under the tab called Sketches!  So, if you ever need some inspiration, take a look over there.

Thanks for stopping by and hopping with us!  Your next stop is over to Kelli's Blog to see what rad project she has come up with!

Happy Hoppin,
- Kim

Take A Chance Day Part 2

Hi again!  Earlier today you saw a card I made for Take A Chance Day and I said I would be back later in the day with another project I made for this wacky holiday so, here I am!

While I was brainstorming project ideas about the theme for this holiday, I kept thinking about the phrase 'always take chances'.  I chose to use this phrase and make an inspirational bracelet.

I stamped the phrase onto a Vintaj metal blank with metal stamps and attached it to chain and a toggle clasp.  I used Vintaj patinas on metal circle blank charms and stamped Cherry Blossom Stamps from Bombshell Stamps (sets are Bombshell Angel (larger cherry blossom) and Cherry Bomb (smaller cherry blossom)) onto them and then glazed them with a sealer.

Thanks for stopping by my blog.  Tomorrow is the Bombshell Stamps monthly blog hop, so please come on back and hop along with us!

Happy Take A Chance Day!

It's A Wacky Holiday!

Hi Everyone!  Once a month Bombshell Stamps will be featuring a wacky holiday.  Today's wacky holiday is Take A Chance Day.

For my project I decided to take a chance and use a Bombshell Stamp Set that I haven't used before.  It is the Muertos Doll Stamp Set.  This set is pretty intimidating to me.  What's that?  How can a smiling skelly be intimidating? Well, it's not him, it's his size.  He's rather large, fully assembled he's up to 7 inches tall!  So, I decided to take a chance and try him out on a card.

I thought this skeleton would make a fun thank you card so I add a banner from 'Banner Sayings' stamp set.  The skeleton and banner were both colored with Copic Markers.  For the background, I used a domino Cuttlebug embossing folder in my eBosser and inked it up with some Colorbox mini ink in Scarlet, and then adhered it to a blue cardstock card.

Thanks for stopping by!  Check back later today for another Take A Chance Day project I made using cherry blossom stamps!

Western Rose

Happy Saturday!

The April Sketch Challenge is up on the Bombshell Stamps Blog today. Here's the sketch which was designed by Kathi:
This sketch really shows off the stamped image.  I have been itching to make a 3D project so instead of making a card I decided to make a rectangular gift box.
The stamped image of Rose is from Bombshell Stamps "Rose's Portrait Stamp Set".  She was stamped in Tsukineko Memento ink in Tuxedo Black on white cardstock and colored in with colored pencils and fussy cut out.  The rectangle box is the "Mini Shirt Box" from SVG Cuts Classic Gift Boxes SVG Kit which I re-sized smaller at 7 inches wide in SCAL3 and cut out with my Silhouette Cameo.
Rose's Western Boots - Back of the Gift Box
One of my favorite details is the back of the box, which shows a pair of cowboy boots! I love cowboy boots, even though I live in NJ and we don't wear cowboy boots (at least no one does in any cities surrounding where I live). The paper and embellishments I used are from Webster's Pages "Western Romance" Collection Kit.  I love this collection kit, the papers are gorgeous and the colors are soft and romantic.
So there is my take on the April Sketch.  Now, it's your turn!  Create a card based on the sketch using your Bombshell Stamps and link it up to the inlinkz at the bottom of this Bombshell Stamps Blog Post for your chance to win a Bombshell Stamp Set. Also check out the post to see what the rest of the DT created! If you love creating 3D projects like I do, go for it!  You can link up any project you love to create (3D paper crafts, altered art, notebook cover, etc) all you have to do is use the April Sketch and use your Bombshell Stamps.  We love seeing what you make!

Have a crafty and wonderful weekend!
- Kim

Bombshell Stamps April Pin-Up Challenge

Teresa, Ms. April, has challenged us to create a monochromatic tag this month.

I wanted to create a circle tag instead of a regular rectangular tag. And of course, I wanted it to be shades of pink. So, I used dies in my eBosser to create the tag. The star circle is by Spellbinders (Star Circle Nestabilities) and was cut out in white cardstock and colored with Copic Markers. The circle die is Sizzix Circle Framelits, and was inked in Picked Raspberry Distress Ink on glossy paper.  The Happy Birthday banner is from the Banner Sayings Stamp Set and the Anchor and Stars are from the Ahoy Sailor Stamp Set both by Bombshell Stamps and colored with Copic Markers. The pink ribbon is from Michael's.

Head on over the Bombshell Stamps blog to see what the rest of the team has created.  And, create your own take on this challenge and link it up to the Bombshell Blog post for your chance to win a Bombshell Stamps stamp set!!!

Have a happy Wednesday!
